Crews on long space missions have no clean way to reprocess their own waste

AAstronauts on long-duration missions generate trash, fecal waste, foam packaging, and carbon dioxide, with no good system to turn these into useful base materials. NASA's challenge seeks solutions that sustainably reprocess each of these waste streams in space. Solving this reduces resupply needs and is critical for missions to the Moon and Mars.
